Loving the Liberty

Cutting out alllll the Liberty circles for a little something I’m working on. Most of these are available from my gorgeous friend The Strawberry Thief, except I’ve added in the scraps from those lovely Alice Caroline Fabrics exclusives!

My sand paper board makes it easy because it grips the fabric while I trace templates. I wouldn't be without it! You can buy one here, if you'd like one!

The Night Garden

The scattering of bright flowers against the night-time backdrop makes the tulips seem like little jewels in my Night Garden quilt. This pattern will teach you step-down piecing - a great skill to have!

You can buy the pattern here - it's a PDF pattern so you won't have to wait ages to get sewing. 

Full instructions are included in the pattern but, if you'd rather use acrylic templates to cut the blocks (good for fussy-cutting), you can buy those from me, too!

Hanging out to dry

This is my freshly-washed Paint by Numbers quilt, hanging out to dry. The pattern was originally published in my book, Hand Quilted With Love (which has just been re-released as Quilted With Love). 

 

 

I wash my quilts in cold water in the washing machine. I use an earth-friendly detergent, which is better on colours. Then I hang them out to dry in the fresh air.

Ummm... excuse me!

Ummm.... excuse me. You're not actually supposed to be there!

The Happiest Man On Earth

I was lucky enough to sit next to Eddie at a dinner for the Ethics Centre where my dad was speaking, about 8 or 9 years ago now I think. Almost as soon as we introduced ourselves, he showed me his Auschwitz tattoo and began telling me why he was at the dinner, and all about his wonderful life and his amazing family, and how you must never let the bad things in the world take away your hope and your belief in happiness and the basic decency of mankind.

 

 

Damian and I were both so blown away by him, he is one of the loveliest, sweetest and most inspirational people we have ever met. We have never forgotten our night sitting with him at dinner. While this book contains the story of the terrible and inhuman things done to Eddie and his family, it is also so full of joy and wisdom and reminders that love and friendship and family are the things that make life worth living. 100% recommend.
