Ok so its hard to stay down when you have friends like mine. The Birthday Quilt Along (see below post) blocks are rolling in, although there is still plenty of time if you want to make one. If I get too many I will make a second quilt and raffle it for charity.
Part of the cheering up has been from my friend Saffron. She emailed last week to ask if learning to screen print might cheer me up. Umm, YES! A little rearranging of boys to sport etc and I was off with a bag full of fabric and no idea what I was in for. I have never screen printed and always imagined it to be very technical and difficult but it's SO easy and fun! If you have a chance to get along to one of Saffron's classes you should do it ASAP, you will have such a great time and come home with your very own fabric.
The class was held in a lovely little hall in Terry Hills, with sunlight streaming in and cockatoos all over the lawn. We all got to work right away on cutting out our stencils.
I decided to use the feature print from my new Spotlight range, Millefiori (in store September 2013) as inspiration.
(Sorry for horrid iPhone pics.)
We all got our stencils and designs sorted and off we went!
Wheee! I could seriously have done that all day. As it was I think I printed twice as much as everyone else and came home with a screen and dertermination to play around more with this awesome new skill. Thank you SO much lovely Saffron for such a fab day. If you don't already all know about Saffron Craig and her awesome fabrics, go here right now and find out! Hooray for home grown talent :)
PS. Here's some of what I printed - some of it is already being cut up for a quilt hahaha
