It never rains but it pours! Believe it or not I'm on another blog tour this week - this time for my good friends at Fat Quarterly.
Don't know about Fat Quarterly? Wow, you need to find out quick smart. Friends Katy Jones, Brione Greenberg (both from the UK), Tascha Bruecher (a Brit living in Germany) and John Adams (from the US - you might know him as Quiltdad) run an e-zine called (obviously) Fat Quarterly, which is a fresh, modern, fun and beautifully put together mag that is delivered right to your email box every month. Check it out!
Hot on the back of the magazine is their new book, Shape Workshop for Quilters. The book is chock-a-block with 60 blocks and 12 projects for quilts, pillows and even a quilty clock!
I see a lot of new quilt books - and I mean a LOT. The thing that makes this book stand out from the crowd for me is the huges selection of blocks - for any quilter but I think particularly for a new or new-ish quilter, this book is a treasure trove is ideas and inspiration for projects that are achievable and fun.
I think my favourite quilt in the book is this one by my mate Katy - I just love the oranges popping against the Echino fabrics.
Then again, I really like this saw blade block....
Or maybe this starry cushion for my couch...
With all that in mind, you're lucky enough to get a cool freebie block pattern from the book, by John! It's called Pyramid Scheme.
Make sure and send me a pic if you do anything with it and I'll post them all at once so we can see what everyone got up to.
Guess what else!! When Lark sent me a copy of the book to review, it got lost in the mail, so they sent me another one. And last week - a lady up the road turned up on the doorstep. She had been sent the book by mistake and happened to tell someone at her craft group about it. They happened to know me, gave her my address and she dropped it in - so now I have a spare copy to give away!! How totally cool is that. And so, if you're an Aussie or a New Zealander (sorry everyone else) you can leave a comment telling me your favourite quilt block. It doesn't have to be something from the book, just a block you think is really cool or different or effective. The winner will be drawn on Monday June 25, 5pm AEST.
Follow along with the rest of the tour and you'll find some more giveways, some more freebie blocks and loads more.

This does look like a Fabulous book!!! They are such a great team at FQ - I do love the Storm at Sea block - never made it - but every single time I see it as a quilt, it is different to the last and it just mesmerises me! It is on my Quilty Bucket List!!

Its hard to choose a real favorite but I love the mosaic tile quilt block. It looks so nice with a fussy cut centre square, and is easy to put together

when I need to make a quilt top fast, I love the disappearing 9-patch block. Thanks for the drawing, I would love a new book for inspiration!

I always love variations on a pinwheel block.

Right now my favourite block is a Dutch Rose. Love the dimensional effect you get using the right fabrics.

Star designs are favourites - sawtooth stars in particular. I like the way they can be varied by using another block in place of the centre square and even having a star within the star.

I love 'Around The World" . . .1930's definitely Art Deco with New York Beauty undertones but easier and just as effective . . easy curved piecing and strong graphics with sashing and cornerstones. Would love to win this book . .thanks!

I don't really have a favourite block! I usually make the whole quilt, and don't break it up into separate bits (quilter fail, maybe?) teehee. I would LOVE this book!

I love this book as well! A wide range of blocks, starting with our trusty square and progressing to other great ideas. My only problem is which one to do first.....

I love that Soda quilt too. There is a quilt along starting if you need a new project :):). I like the humble half square triangle, so many design possibilities with this block. Thank you for the book review.

My favourite block at the moment is the one I am designing which is a Maltese Cross using striped fabrics with spotted applique square centre and border. So close to being finished and I love how its turning out. (I was inspired to try something a bit more tricky and of my own design by your visit! Thanks for the confidence boost!)

Hi. My favorite block is Honey Bee. I put it in my first sampler quilt and would live to do something else with this block. I really need to sit down with pen & paper and draw something...
